The Florida Legislature is heading into the final stages of preparing the State Budget for 2009-2010. The results of what comes out of Tallahassee can have a major affect on programs that have greatly benefited our students and teachers.

At the present time both the House and Senate are proposing budgets for our school district that reflects over $20 million in cuts during the 2008-2009 school year. The budget proposed for 2009-2010 by the House is over one million dollars more than the budget proposed by the Senate. The one million dollar difference is because the Senate is cutting in half the funding for the Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Cambridge programs. This proposal by the Senate would be devastating to these programs and would be felt throughout our school district.

I urge our parents to contact Senator Steve Oelrich and Speaker of the House Larry Cretul immediately. Please urge them to have the Senate fund these programs at the level they are presently being funded by adding the amount necessary to their total amount.
Speaker Larry Cretul: Phone: 850-488-0887 email: larry.cretul@myfloridahouse.gov
Senator Steve Oelrich: Phone: 850-487-5020 email: oelrich.steve.web@flsenate.gov
